Why do you need buy in?
- Resources will need to be devoted to a waste minimisation drive. This could mean financial investment; it definitely will mean an investment of time, and that’s likely to be ongoing. Support needs to be for the duration — not just at the beginning of a project.
- If senior management is fully supportive, the project is at less risk from stalling, or being ‘bumped’ by other priorities.
- When everyone in a company backs and understands the need for change, they will be more inclined to contribute positively. There will be less resistance, less apathy, less suspicion.
What is needed is a clear, shared vision.
You, or whoever champions this project, need to communicate — throughout the life cycle of the implementation and hopefully beyond. Make sure everyone is kept aware of:
- objectives
- what needs to be done to reach these objectives
- their role, and the importance of it
- results — successes and shortcomings.
