Going for it
So, you’ve identified and measured the wastes at your site. You’ve benchmarked against competition and industry standards. You’ve set realistic targets. You’ve drawn up an action plan of short, medium and long-term objectives, giving them deadlines, costs and benefits.
You probably need to present to senior management again at this point. Your plans need board support, and investments signing off. You may want to revisit the Getting buy in section. With buy in secured, it’s time to do it. Keep these in mind:
- Be systematic. Think in the short, medium and long term. Some changes will occur almost overnight. Some are going to take much longer, and need careful planning.
- Measure, measure, measure. Quantify financial savings, payback periods and quantities of waste reduced.
- Keep communicating. Broadcast your successes. It will help with motivation and keeping the board supportive.
- Maintain the momentum. The project needs driving not just this month, but this year. And next year.
- Shout about it! Let potential customers and partners know about your environmental credentials. Tell Envirowise. Apply for awards and recognition. These could give you a real advantage over your competitors.
Each industry, every company, has different wastes and solutions. Each waste minimisation strategy is unique. You can get information and advice that’s specific to YOUR business from Envirowise. The next screens highlight the free services and information available to you.
Good luck!
