New technology
Using new technology can involve either changing to a cleaner process, in place of more environmentally harmful ones, or installing cleaner equipment, or doing both.
The benefits of new technology include:
- reduce costs
- improve efficiency
- reduced use of raw materials
- reduction in waste generated
- improved product quality
The steps involved in selecting and implementing cleaner processes or installing cleaner equipment are similar to those for any other new equipment or process: When considering the options, identify the performance criteria you require (in addition to capital and operating cost considerations) including:
- operational performance
- space
- customer requirements
- operating life of plant
- environmental benefits
- project timescales
- effect on product quality
- documentation and training requirements
- health and safety
- contractual issues
Envirowise have a number of case studies demonstrating the benefits of investing in new technology:
