An Inverness golf course is reaping the financial benefits of improved resource efficiency after working with Envirowise.
Fairways, who run Loch Ness Golf Course, is already an environmentally conscientious company. They approached Envirowise for further assistance in becoming more efficient and took part in a free, confidential on-site waste review. These visits* see Envirowise advisors working with companies to produce a tailored waste minimisation plan, including savings targets, suggested actions on how to consume fewer resources and advice on legislation.
Neil Hampton, Golf & Marketing Manager for Fairways said: “It was very useful to be able to draw on the technical and commercial knowledge of the Envirowise adviser, who gave us immediate feedback and advice whilst on-site. We then received a written report demonstrating how we could make significant year-on-year savings simply by implementing a series of straight forward recommendations.
“Envirowise also provided us with some cost-neutral suggestions too. I would recommend that any company which is keen to save money through simple waste minimisation procedures takes advantage of a free onsite visit.”
Following their Envirowise visit, Fairways have started to change procedures they had in place relating to the segregation of waste, ensuring no waste is unnecessarily generated. In addition staff, are also being made more aware of their responsibilities, by ensuring that items are being reused as often as possible. As a result the company are looking at potential savings of £11,000.
Alan Hendry, Envirowise Programme Manager for Scotland, said: “The example of Fairways suggests that other companies in Scotland might be missing a trick when it comes to looking at ways to save money.
“In almost every type of business there is the potential for cost savings, but exactly where these lie is not always obvious. Envirowise offers companies a range of initiatives, which allow them to use our knowledge and expertise to cut costs in different areas and benefit the environment at the same time.”
