London water savers urged to enter business awards

Water efficient companies in London are being encouraged to enter a national award scheme that recognises businesses which have taken significant steps to reduce water consumption at their premises.

The Industry and Business category of the Environment Agency’s Water Efficiency Awards 2007 is sponsored by Envirowise, which offers a programme of free, confidential resource efficiency advice to companies across the UK.

Contenders from all industry sectors that have made strong progress – whether through straightforward improvements such as encouraging staff to cut their day-to-day water use, or a more large-scale investment in water-saving technology – are encouraged to make an application by 31st August 2006.

Markus Herz, Envirowise Regional Manager for London, said: "Taking part in these awards gives local companies the chance to showcase the good work they have completed – as well as making a positive environmental statement to both customers and competitors.

"The awards also highlight the fact that water efficiency is good for business and that by taking resource efficiency seriously, companies can save money and improve their competitiveness."

The Award ceremony will take place in London on March 2007 and businesses can enter online at Save Water on the Environment Agency website. They can also visit Envirowise's water section, which allows users to access a range of free publications and online tools regarding the monitoring and reduction of water use. Alternatively, call the Envirowise Advice Line on 0800 585 794.
