All over England, companies are clubbing together to make dramatic changes to their businesses and their bottom lines. With new funding for Resource Efficiency Clubs located on your doorstep, Envirowise is supporting even more companies to make savings. With over 50 clubs running and more setting up now, here are just some of the news stories from around the country ...
Waste less in the West Country
Plymouth Manufacturers Group has secured over £50 000 of Envirowise funding to set up and run Devon's first Resource Efficiency Club (REC). So far, 13 PMG members have signed up to Plymouth's REC and - with a combined turnover of £1.2 billion - the potential for saving is enormous. The companies involved estimate savings of £3.8 million.
PMG chairman Patrick O' Connell said:
"I would challenge any company who say they couldn't benefit from looking at waste and energy cost savings. Plymouth's REC will provide the vehicle by which to increase profitability and deliver goods and services in a more socially and environmentally conscious way. Waste is not inevitable."
Elsewhere in Devon and next door in Cornwall, Business Link have established POWER clubs with funding from Envirowise. POWER clubs comprise groups of top Cornish and Devon businesses from a range of sectors including manufacturing, food & drink, printing, leisure and tourism and retail. The clubs encourage sharing of experience between members and support members to overcome hurdles to resource efficiency. This will be achieved by audits, club meetings and mentoring. POWER Cornwall and POWER Devon will come together for workshops aimed at developing necessary skills.
