South West-based St Austell Brewery is set to benefit both financially and environmentally by implementing various water efficiency measures throughout their Company.
Now, on the eve of national Water at Work Week (17-21 September) the Brewery is encouraging other local firms to do the same - boosting profits and lowering environmental impact in the process.
Sally Sandford, Environmental Officer, says: "We recognised the potential for saving money and boosting our resource efficiency by implementing a robust water minimisation programme. Through installing external usage meters, water management systems, push taps, CIP (cleaning in process) systems, steam recover systems and grey water irrigation, we have already got the ball rolling but are always on the look out for other opportunities. I would encourage any local business to consider making use of the advice the Envirowise Big Splash programme has to offer."
The Big Splash allows companies to access free information packs, workshops and interactive tools - as well as a confidential telephone advice line.
Paul Gilbert, Envirowise Regional Manager for the South West, says: "We estimate that UK businesses are sending the financial equivalent of just under 40 bottles of champagne1 down the drain every minute in wasted water. Water at Work Week is the ideal time for businesses to sign-up to The Big Splash and put a stop to this unnecessary waste."
"Since the launch of The Big Splash in June 2004, we have helped UK businesses identify water related cost savings worth more than £8 million. South West companies should make sure they grab their share," adds Paul.
