This Case Study demonstrates the economic and environmental benefits of installing a cleaning-in-place (CIP) system to clean the vessels used for batch chemical production. One of the resin-based additives produced by Ciba Specialty Chemicals is particularly sticky, making it difficult to clean the vessels effectively. In the past, this cleaning was carried out using a hot caustic solution in a process that took several hours. To improve productivity and operator safety, Ciba investigated the use of high-pressure CIP systems. Since its installation, the selected unit has proved a great success.
