This Action Profile outlines the success of a Scottish rural, high street community in working together to cut costs and achieve more sustainable business practices. Twelve businesses took part in the Castle Douglas Retail Project. This project was initiated by the Dumfries and Galloway Waste Minimisation Forum in 2001 and was the first of its kind to offer free environmental advice to small retail businesses in the area. Joint action enabled cost savings of around £9750/year and reduced utility and waste disposal costs.
