This Good Practice Guide, which is endorsed by the British Meat Federation and the British Meat Manufacturer's Association, explains how red meat abattoirs can achieve significant cost savings by adopting a systematic approach to reducing water use and effluent generation. Industry Examples indicate the cost savings and other benefits already achieved by companies that have adopted this approach. For many companies, improvements can be made in both process and cleaning operations. The Guide describes a range of cost-effective and simple measures to help red meat abattoirs of all sizes save money while continuing to clean and wash just as effectively and without compromising hygiene standards.
