GG340 Savings Through Low Solvent Wood Coatings

Cover image showing: GG340 Savings Through Low Solvent Wood Coatings

The UK furniture industry is under increasing pressure to reduce the amount of organic solvents it uses for coating, thinning and cleaning. After implementing measures to reduce unnecessary solvent use, the next step is to switch from traditional solvent-based coatings to low solvent alternatives. This Good Practice Guide describes the various wood coatings now available and suggests low solvent options for three sub-sectors (reproduction, solid timber and board material manufacturers). Measures to reduce solvent use and increase productivity by improving coating efficiency are also described. Industry examples from five well-known companies demonstrate the cost and other benefits of switching to low solvent coatings.
