The site audit
Now for the nitty gritty. You need to pinpoint exactly what waste is being produced, and where it is, before you can reduce it. You need a precise, thorough waste audit.
A site audit will help you:
- know how you were doing before you started your resource efficiency initiative
- quantify the environmental and financial savings made.
First, aim to identify low-level waste producers, such as leaking taps. Then, move on to the big waste producers: the areas where large amounts of excess waste are likely to be produced. Literally walk round the site.
A checklist is invaluable when conducting your audit. Click here and download a checklist you can use as a starting point — you may want to adapt it to suit your own organisation’s needs.
You may want to enlist the help of an expert. A FastTrack visit involves one of our independent advisors coming to your site for up to a day, free of charge, and conducting a site audit with you. This service is available in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales only. Click here to find out more.
