CS457 Brewery taps into savings by working with water company
This Case Study demonstrates the economic and environmental benefits that can be achieved when a water company and a major customer work in close partnership. A project team was established between Coors Brewers and Severn Trent Water to identify ways to reduce effluent volume and strength, and make savings. The collaboration facilitated the installation of appropriate measures dictated by the PPC (Pollution Prevention and Control) regulations, and enabled the collation of information that was needed when the Burton site applied for a successful IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) permit in 2005. The benefits to Coors Brewers include a 30% reduction in trade effluent costs for the South Filter Room (worth £40,000/year), water consumption reduced by around 20,000 m3/year and product loss reduced by over 200 barrels of beer/week.
