This Case Study at Peboc demonstrates the costs savings and environmental benefits that are achievable through effective management and segregation of all site waste streams, and recycling in preference to disposal. Peboc has taken a proactive approach to recent changes in hazardous waste legislation to identify individual waste streams and select optimal disposal routes. The major benefits that resulted include: savings of £27,200/year from the segregation and re-use of toluene; potential future savings of £130,000 relating to virgin toluene cost savings; reduced solid hazardous waste sent for landfill; and savings in water and effluent disposal of approximately £4,000/year.
