Implementing resource efficiency projects has enabled sub-sea umbilical manufacturer, DUCO Ltd, to realise cost and environmental benefits at its Newcastle Upon Tyne site. These benefits include savings of up to £504,800 through avoided disposal costs for 631 tonnes of scrap umbilical, £34,000/year savings through the bulk purchase of test fluid, £20,000/year savings through the recovery of test fluid, upgraded site drainage system provides oil-spill protection for up to 25,000 litres of oil, nearly £65,000 cost savings since 2004 through the redesign of delivery drums and annual water savings of around 400 m3 through a new water treatment bath.
