These giants of food and drink retail have joined Envirowise’s Supply Chain Partnership – an initiative seeking to deliver improved business efficiency to small and large suppliers.
Reducing costs is critical to food and drink manufacturers in this competitive marketplace. Waste typically accounts for 4% of turnover; in some cases up to 10%. Literally, this is profit thrown away. Supply Chain Partnerships aim to help suppliers cut waste costs by up to 1% of turnover, often through simple low or no-cost measures.
Through the Supply Chain Partnership, companies join forces to reduce or reuse

Savings can be realised all round - fiscal savings, hand in hand with environmental savings. Improved logistics not only cut transport costs; they can cut food miles – the distance produce travels from source to shelf. If packaging is reduced or reused, not only does the bill shrink; so does landfill.
Chris McAnn, ASDA’s Ethical Trading Manager, says: "We signed-up to the Envirowise initiative realising that it was a perfect opportunity for us to influence the environment on a wider scale - and to work with our supply chain to do that.”
