Building on successes in retail and food & drink supply chains, Envirowise recently supported a pilot scheme in the construction sector. Working with AMEC, we are seeing early signs of success from this sector, too.
As hosts, AMEC's design & project services and building & facilities services divisions encouraged their supply chain to work together to reduce and eliminate waste. Activities run by Envirowise working with CIRIA - a leading support organisation - included workshops highlighting best practice in areas such as resource efficiency, legislation, materials ordering and recycling, and open discussion forums. Our advisors provided free, on-site reviews* for supply chain companies, identifying areas to save money, consume less resource, reduce environmental impact and comply more easily with environmental legislation.
Envirowise is evaluating the impact of the supply chain partnership (SCP) and indications are that it is delivering real benefits to AMEC and its suppliers. We hope to present the results at a celebration event soon.
"It's clear that there are benefits in being part of a supply chain partnership and a significant number of leading companies have shown interest in setting one up. Envirowise is aiming to develop the supply chain partnership model to the point where we can provide good practice guidance and support for construction companies wishing to set up SCPs themselves." - Dr David Vaughan, Envirowise
Envirowise is in discussion to set up further SCPs. These will be led by hosts including major construction contractors, house builders and housing associations. We hope to announce these SCPs at the celebration event.
