Winning over waste

On 6 June 2006 at The Lincoln Centre, London, David Cameron, Leader of the Conservative Party, presented awards to 14 winners of the 2005 BCE Awards.

Business Commitment to the Environment (BCE) is an independent awards scheme, with 31 years experience of showcasing environmental excellence. Envirowise is proud to sponsor these established and important awards.

The Peter Parker Award, in memory of the late Sir Peter Parker (founder of BCE) is given to the entry considered by the panel to be the most outstanding in any year. For 2005, it was presented to Interface Europe Ltd of Halifax. Interface produces high quality commercial carpets, and has undergone a ten-year transformation aimed at becoming a fully sustainable company. Interface's waste reduction programme has generated over $262 million (£140 million) in savings worldwide. Interface has been featured in an Envirowise case study.

Speaking at the awards, the Right Honorable David Cameron, said
"The BCE Awards has a significant role in helping Government achieve national targets and implement national strategies such as the UK Sustainable Development Strategy."
