Manchester United & Corprotex Team up for Environmental Supply Chain Programme

Manchester-based corporate clothing supplier, Corprotex, has teamed up with Manchester United FC, as part of a programme to reduce environmental impact.

Launched in 2002, the Envirowise supply chain programme is designed to help companies across the retail and food & drink sectors work with their suppliers to improve environmental performance, while reducing costs. The programme has helped major UK retailers to cut costs and reduce unnecessary waste. During the last year alone businesses involved in the programme have identified potential cost savings of more than £2.6 million.

Paul Smith, Managing Director at Corprotex, says: “By working together with Manchester United, in conjunction with the Envirowise project, we will be able to identify specific actions to improve performance. Waste management is an especially important issue for us, and we are therefore keen to look for ways to address our environmental impact in this area.”

Keith McIntosh, Safety & Environmental Manager at Manchester United, comments: “The Envirowise programme has shown an excellent track record in helping to identify savings while reducing environmental impact throughout the supply chain. It is fantastic to have Corprotex on board this year and we look forward to working with the company closely to introduce important environmental and resource efficiencies into our products and services.”

The supply chain programme involves a four-stage programme: introductory workshop, on-site resource efficiency reviews, targeted training and impact assessment. It also offers free support and practical assistance under the Envirowise programme.

Examples of potential savings and solutions include re-usable transport packaging, improved timers for heating and lighting, better delivery logistics or smarter product packaging design.

Nick Ward, Envirowise Regional Manager for the North West, comments: “Now in its sixth year, the supply chain programme has seen excellent results. Participating businesses can benefit from free practical workshops and specialist advice on subjects such as water usage, waste minimisation and energy efficiency. And our overall experience shows businesses can reduce waste costs by up to £1,000 per employee by taking a systematic approach to resource efficiency.”
