Low Carbon Design Club helps food industry save millions

Ginsters Food imagein the South West is helping the food industry to innovate through clean design for packaging, and reap the rewards.

The South West Low Carbon Design Club is providing free clean design support to businesses including Riverford Organics, Ginsters and Barts Spices, to help them reduce their carbon and environmental impact. The Club is an ongoing initiative that can both identify opportunities and provide technical support to deliver them.

The potential club benefits include:

  • Cost: Savings from the clean design of packaging can be significant. Total savings are now in excess of £1m
  • Carbon Reduction: carbon savings are running into the hundreds of tonnes
  • Competitive Advantage: increasingly, retailers and industry groups are requesting information on carbon
  • Transit Efficiency: reducing packaging size reduces transit and storage costs
  • Legal Compliance: Envirowise has identified a number of areas where legal compliance can be tightened up

Upon joining the club, members receive an impressive FREE package of their own:

  • An Envirowise DesignTrack on-site visit to help reduce the costs and environmental burden of packaging
  • An Envirowise FastTrack on-site visit to help reduce waste and resource costs
  • Five days' support
