Resource efficiency takes off at Newcastle International
Newcastle International Airport is improving resource efficiency by encouraging its suppliers to join together and seek specialist advice from Envirowise.
As a result, some of the biggest brands in the UK have signed up to join the Envirowise Supply Chain programme, including British Airways, WHSmith, Boots, Greggs and The Alfa Group (who deal with duty free items).
Each company that has signed up to the scheme identifies its 'resource champion' who can take advantage of a set of resources that include:
- Free training workshops on waste reduction, water use and energy use
- Legislation information
- Ongoing mentoring assistance
- A FastTrack visit from Envirowise that helps members identify areas where significant improvements can be made
- Technical support and advice
Environmental Co-ordinator, Helen Hayden, at Newcastle International Airport said: "We are fully committed to reducing our environmental impact and recognise that our suppliers and business partners have an important contribution to make. We are pleased that so many of our suppliers have taken the Envirowise Supply Chain programme on board and are keen to embed environmental awareness into the day to day running of each business located in the airport."
Information on Envirowise in the North East is available on the Envirowise North East pages.
