Analysts at New Carbon Finance have warned of a significant increase in the price of carbon over the next four years. It is suggested the cost of carbon is to hit £30 a tonne by 2012. So now is the time to make changes to your business behaviour and ensure minimum impact.
Further to this, the Government's blueprint for tackling climate change is to receive Royal Assent in the coming months. It sets out a framework for moving the UK to a low-carbon economy and key points of the draft bill include a series of clear targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions - including legally binding UK's targets for a 60% reduction by 2050 and a 26% to 32% reduction by 2020.
The subsequent increase of energy costs and moving the UK to a low-carbon colony will further incentivise organisations to invest in energy efficient measures.
