Envirowise results in

Every year the Envirowise programme is put to the test. An impact assessment is carried out, gauging economic and environmental savings to UK businesses as a result of using the Envirowise programme.

The assessment is conducted by an independent research agency. This year more than 3000 companies were interviewed across the UK. They were solicited for feedback on activities completed in 2006. The research identified:

• resource efficiency measures businesses had implemented;
• the extent to which these measures were attributable to Envirowise and last but not least
• the economic and environmental savings to UK businesses.

It will probably be no surprise that companies who worked with Envirowise to implement their resource efficiency measures saved more than those who did not. But the scale of savings may…

In terms of materials: 17.5 million cubic metres of water, nearly 10 million cubic metres of effluent, over half a million tonnes of waste and nearly the same in carbon were saved.

Good news for the environment but also good news for businesses: The financial value of savings attributed to Envirowise through implementing measures to reduce use of raw materials and minimise waste totalled £105m in 2006. With an additional £15.5 million saved in time and £42.5m saved in advice and consultancy, Envirowise has helped UK businesses save £163 million in 2006.
