Local authorities are under increasing pressure to reduce their environmental impact. Norfolk County Council is committed to working through its supplier partnerships to meet stakeholder expectations on corporate responsibility. It is very important to the Authority that its suppliers share its environmental values. Environmental and supplychain pressure will inevitably have an impact upon businesses, regardless of size. Increasingly, potential clients are considering green issues when making purchasing decisions through existing and alternative suppliers. It could be the key factor in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Your competitors may have already improved their environmental performance at your expense.

In simple terms "green" means "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future".
The Green Supplier Support Scheme has been developed by Norfolk County Council and the Government-funded Envirowise programme to provide suppliers and potential suppliers to Norfolk County Council with free, impartial and confidential advice and hands-on support.
It assists companies to deliver longterm efficiency savings, encourage innovation and make more efficient and effective use of natural resources.
The focus is on integrating environmental measures into existing business activity.

Minimising the amount of waste that is produced, reducing energy consumption and making more efficient use of resources can all deliver real cost savings in addition to protecting and enhancing the environment, and reducing business risk.
The true cost of waste can be between 5 and 10 times the cost to a business of disposing of it or 4% of your turnover! |
