Welcome to the Envirowise Indicator, an interactive web-based tool designed to allow Scottish businesses, irrespective of their size or industry sector, to gain a useful indication of their company's environmental impact and the financial savings that can be made by addressing it.

Using the tool

The tool is designed to allow you to quickly get a feel for how your businesses use of resources affects the environment. It allows you to easily put data about the resources that you use based on the sector in which you operate. Once you have entered some data, the tool shows you the costs and gives an indication of the amount of carbon that would be generated for your use of resources and the amount of land needed to support that resource use. The carbon and landuse resources will differ depending on what resources are used.

The tool should help you understand which resources are most important in managing your impacts. It also points to sources of help in reducing your impacts. However, the tool is only indicative and to fully understand your company's impacts, you will need more detailed data and analysis. There are links to other tools and information to help you investigate further, should you wish to.

You can save your data and compare saved data with new data. Comparing your future performance with you baseline performance will allow you to see progress. It can be very difficult to benchmark your company's environmental performance against that of other companies. In time, Envirowise hopes to make this easier by developing benchmarks for different types of company.
