With Christmas fast approaching, Envirowise is appealing to employees in the West Midlands to fly the flag for resource efficiency – and share their positive habits with other companies in the region.
Christmas might be a time of great excess, but by making resource efficiency a business priority, companies could enjoy savings of up to £200 per employee going into 2007. Envirowise is therefore calling on environmentally-savvy employees to make their voice heard and submit their top ‘efficiency’ tips for inclusion on the programme’s website.
John Durrant of Coventry takes an active role in helping Education Development International plc improve its environmental credentials: “I take the environment seriously at home by cutting my wasteful habits wherever possible. I really feel that it’s important to champion this issue at work, so I look for ways to encourage my colleagues to do the same – for instance by setting up an office recycling scheme to significantly reduce the waste collection bill and minimise the office environmental impact at the same time and by launching a reduce it/switch it off campaign at work to save energy by switching off equipment when not in use and at night.
John Barraclough, Envirowise Regional Manager for the West Midlands, said: “We know that there are dedicated individuals in companies right across our region that take the efficient use of resources seriously, but do not necessarily have a specific environmental role written into their contract – and John of Education Development International plc is an example of one such committed individual.
“John demonstrates that taking action on improving resource efficiency is something anybody can do – and that's why we want to hear of any tips and hints individuals have to offer to other companies. Perhaps you have a cunning way of encouraging colleagues to stop printing needless paper, or a quick fix to reducing water use in the kitchen. Whatever it is, we want to hear it!
