The Northeast of Scotland is a key hub of oil and gas related activity in Scotland. The oil and gas industry underpins the economy of the region providing major business opportunities to all sizes of enterprise - of the 380,000 jobs supported by the industry throughout the U.K., 43% are within companies based in Scotland.
Envirowise has recently completed a supply chain project with a number of companies in the Northeast of Scotland serving the oil & gas sector. The project involved 13 'host' companies, some of which were large multinational companies, and 10 'supplier' companies. The aim of the project was to provide support and guidance to those companies involved in becoming resource efficient. The focus was on minimising their waste to landfill, reducing their environmental impact and determining cost and resource saving opportunities for implementation in their supply chain networks.
Envirowise provided participating companies with the guidance needed to make these improvements, with support from the Carbon Trust and Energy Saving Trust. As part of the support, businesses received on-site visits* and were invited to 2 workshops which provided opportunities for knowledge transfer, networking and good practise examples.
All opportunities identified a total of £398,600 of savings through increased resource and energy efficiency. This includes 3,800 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill, reduced water consumption by 9,800 tonnes and almost 3,500,000 kwh saved through greater energy efficiency. By the end of the project, those companies involved had realised over £164,000 of savings.
