Anglesey-based Cymru Country Chickens, part of the VION Food Group, has successfully managed to stem the flow of water it uses on a daily basis by 50% thanks to Envirowise’s tailored support service.
Employing over 300 people, the highly-automated, state-of-the-art chicken processing plant supplies high-profile UK manufacturers who provide ready-made meals to a number of well known retailers.
Following specialist advice from Envirowise, VION Llangefni introduced a water minimisation programme across the site to identify and address problem areas. They found many ‘quick wins’ for the site, including using pressure washer lances rather than its current standard one inch open-ended hoses. These open-ended hoses use three times the amount of water but using the lances gives identical cleaning results.
