Envirowise appeals for South West to put more than one million bins out of work...

This Wednesday (21st February) offices across the South West are invited to take part in One Bin Day – a campaign which urges companies to remove all except one bin from the workplace, for the full working day.

The experiment is designed to get the region's 1.7 million-plus office workers to re-think the way they deal with waste.

Information on how to get involved is available at the One bin day page where companies are also encouraged to participate in an online forum.

Paul Gilbert, Envirowise Regional Manager for the South West, says: "We see this event as a way for local companies to jump-start a whole range of environmental activities in the workplace – generating valuable cost savings for their business in the process."

Bond Pearce is a commercial law firm, and its Exeter office is taking part on Wednesday. Environmental law solicitor, Paul Collins, says: "Taking part in One Bin Day is a proactive way for us to raise awareness of environmental issues in workplace. We hope it will help staff to re-assess how they dispose of office waste in particular. If people are faced with the visual impact of the waste they generate, the incentive to either recycle or ideally reduce their waste is bound to be increased.

"We recognise that our business practices have environmental effects, directly and indirectly, so we launched an Environmental Management System project in July 2005. Quite simply the efficient use of resources clearly makes sound business sense."

Free advice and information on all aspects of resource efficiency is available at the One bin day page or by calling the confidential Advice Line on 0800 585 794.
