How will your business deal with its waste?
From Tuesday October 30, 2007, businesses must treat all their non-hazardous waste before it can be landfilled - the latest deadline in the implementation of the EU Landfill Directive.
The new regulations mean businesses will be required to take responsibility for their waste. By making simple improvements in their resource and waste management, businesses can then help deliver a better environment by reducing reliance on landfill.
Envirowise waste expert Heather Cholerton states: "This is the perfect time for businesses to review their waste and waste practices. Businesses will see a positive impact on their bottom line if they look at how they can become more resource efficient and so reduce their waste overall, rather than blindly buying-in the services of an external waste contractor or just relying on recycling."
Other options to consider apart from the minimisation of waste include segregation, recycling and re-use. Treatment can be as simple as separating different components at source, some of which must then be recycled.
