Top Tips for Businesses

  1. VOCs in inks can be health and environmental hazards.
Consider effective ink management or substitution with soy or water based inks.
  2. Digital substrate costs up to £3,000 per tonne.
Maximise use by ensuring only appropriate widths are selected, and optimising layout by nesting.
  3. An Environmental Management System will help you to manage your business so that you can control environmental issues, reduce risks and identify cost savings.

  4. Reduce the risk of materials with expired shelf life.
Use materials on a first-in first-out basis, have a computerized inventory system to track your stock and store paper in an environmentally controlled area.
  5. As regular purchasers of equipment, printers should be aware of the WEEE directive which places responsibility for the eventual disposal of electrical and electronic equipment with the manufacturer.
  6. Ensure you keep all your wastes segregated.
Contaminating non-hazardous waste with hazardous substances makes the entire thing hazardous, thereby increasing your disposal costs, and making it difficult to recycle and reuse the materials.
