Abstract
This technical guidance note contains detailed information on modifying whitefish filleting benches to reduce water and effluent costs. The guidance note demonstrates how the bench can be modified by adding trimming guards, waste chutes and catch trays to aid the removal of fish parts from the effluent waste stream. These simple adaptations reduce the strength of the effluent and hence reduce wastewater disposal charges. The guidance note also suggests fitting flow regulators to hoses to prevent unnecessary water use.
